Don’t Make the Same Mistake as Me- Here’s the Best Places to Park for Free in Downtown Atlanta
Anytime after 7 p.m. fans can park for free and the two-hour time limit does not apply. People can also park for free in Downtown Atlanta anytime on Sunday. The same rules apply on a government holiday.
I normally put in Spiller Coffee on Mitchell Street in my Google Maps app. This takes me to several streets which are typically full of street parking. If I park at 6 p.m., I simply pay for one hour of parking on the app listed on the sign and save a lot of money for cheap parking during events at both Mercedes-Benz Stadium and State Farm Arena.
Ideally, the event is happening on Sunday or after 7 p.m. and I can pay for free. You’re looking at about a 15 minute walk or less to get to the Benz from this parking area.
Don’t Get Towed by Parking in the Wrong Spot in Downtown Atlanta
To avoid getting towed, keep two things in mind before blindly parking then yelling at me. First, please read the signs before your park.
There are times where city officials put up no parking signs in areas where there are normally spots. If there is an arrow pointing to no parking in your direction, don’t park there.

Additionally, some events in Atlanta are in the middle of the afternoon. This free parking strategy only works if you are looking to park from 5 p.m. on or anytime on Sunday.
Yes, this is a perfect strategy for Club World Cup games or any other events in Downtown Atlanta on a Sunday. So, for weekday matches during the afternoon we need a different plan.
Best Cheap Parking Options Near Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Downtown Atlanta
In my years of going to Atlanta events, I have not found a strategy that allows fans to park for free during a typical weekday afternoon. Your next best option is to park for cheap.
There is a dirt lot across from the College Football Hall of Fame that can be as low as $10, but I would not recommend parking there as it is in bad shape.
Don’t risk damaging your car to save a few bucks on parking.
My personal favorite lot is directly next to The Yard Milkshake Bar on Marietta Street. There is a machine where you can pay with credit card.
While I have seen it as low as $10, I would plan for $20 with the potential for a slightly higher rate for in-demand events (don’t ask what it cost during Super Bowl week).
Plan on a pleasant 10 to 15 minute walk to Mercedes-Benz Stadium from this lot. It is also the easiest lot I’ve found to get out of after games or concerts to get back on I-75
If you want to park on the other side of the stadium, typing in Underground Atlanta to your maps app of choice will allow you find several cheap parking garages.
With the FIFA Club World Cup this year followed by the more traditional 2026 World Cup. Atlanta is about to be soccer city, so let’s save some of that money for proper football tickets.
