Regardless of the official term, the main idea is that World Cup ticket prices will be based on the demand for the particular game. For matches where tickets are not selling quite as quickly, the ticket prices will drop. Yet, those high-demand matches are likely to see prices rise.
“A FIFA official further told NPR that pricing won’t be set by ‘automated algorithms,’ but will be guided by a team of people who will be regularly ‘monitoring and making adjustments in real time’ to ticket prices based on supply and demand — which suggests that FIFA officials can ultimately determine how high they are willing to let prices go,” NPR’s Rafael Nam wrote on September 8.
