The soccer (or football if you must) World Cup 2026 is fast approaching and fans will need to identify the top cities to visit with so many games on the schedule. If you are planning a trip to the United States for the World Cup (or even are an American sports fan), we’re here to help you plan the trip of your dreams.

We’ve limited this list to the United States cities hosting the World Cup to help narrow things down. Yet, there are plenty of appealing World Cup cities in Mexico and Canada.

Here’s a look at our rankings of the cities you must visit during the World Cup.

No. 1 Seattle

A look at Lumen field in Seattle, one of the notable World Cup stadiums.

Seattle checks nearly every box for a must-visit World Cup trip for Americans and international tourists alike. Not only is Seattle beautiful, especially during the summer, but it is extremely walkable and easy to get around.

There is an opportunity to plan an epic road trip given Seattle’s proximity to Vancouver. Fans could easily travel to see Canada host Qatar in Vancouver on June 18. The next day you can head back to Seattle to see the UMSNT take on Australia.

Seattle hotel prices are surging during the World Cup, but the Airbnb market is still quite affordable.

No. 2 New York City

A look at Madison Square Garden in New York City.

This one is aimed at international visitors (or even Americans) who have not visited New York City. Ticket prices for the World Cup Final are quite expensive, but there are planned watch parties that should be worth the trip itself.

The only challenge with NYC is that the stadium is technically in New Jersey. Fans are faced with either staying in New Jersey, or finding a lengthy public transit solution on match day to get to MetLife Stadium.

Regardless, New York City has so much to offer that it is worth the hassle. In addition to hosting the final, New York City plays hosts to several top teams, including Brazil, England, Germany and France in the Group Stage.

Fans looking for an epic sports trip can also pair World Cup matches with other sporting events like the Knicks, Nets, Yankees or Mets.

No. 3 Boston

What better way to celebrate America’s 250th anniversary than with a trip to Boston. Like New York City, Boston hosts several in-demand teams like England, France and even Norway (don’t forget Erling Haaland).

Boston will also host a match in both the Knockout Stage and quarterfinals. For ambitious travelers, you can pair Boston with another Northeast city like New York City or Philadelphia for a stellar World Cup road trip.

No. 4 Kansas City

Kansas City is likely to get passed over on these lists for bigger cities, but those who have visited KC know its appeal. The city has drawn some criticism for the lack of public transit given the stadiums are not near the city center.

Yet, downtown and the appealing parts of the city are easy for tourists to travel between. If all you did is eat good BBQ, you could do a lot worse than a trip to Kansas City. Fans can see Lionel Messi and Argentina in Kansas City on June 16, but be prepared to pay a premium.

Kansas City is also hosting matches in the Round of 32 and quaterfinals. Chances are KC will not be as crowded as some of the other coveted destinations hosting World Cup games.

No. 5 Atlanta

World Cup 2026
Fans willing to risk it may be wiser to wait to buy World Cup tickets.

Yes, I am a bit partial to Atlanta given it is my home city. Candidly, Atlanta’s draw was a bit underwhelming but watching Spain live is still a plus.

Atlanta cannot be ignored with the city hosting eight World Cup games, representing one of the places with the most matches to watch. There are plenty of expected watch parties from downtown Atlanta to nearby Decatur.

Where Atlanta really shines is hosting marquee World Cup matches in the Round of 32, Round of 16 and semifinals. Make sure to check out a Braves game, Hip-Hop show and walk the Beltline while eating lemon pepper wings (wet, of course).
