Westin Lake Las Vegas Resort Review: Is Hotel Worth Staying Off Strip?

Serenity, peace and quiet is not exactly the image of a typical Las Vegas hotel, but the Westin Lake Las Vegas offers just that. You may be debating whether the hotel is worth it to stay away from the strip.

While the answer depends on what you’re looking for during your trip, I found my stay at the Westin Lake Las Vegas Resort to be incredible. It’s not just me as the Kansas City Chiefs stayed at this Westin during the 2024 Super Bowl, and all they did is raise another Lombardi Trophy.

A look at the Westin Lake Las Vegas when the Chiefs stayed at the resort during Super Bowl 2024.

Brazil also stayed at the Westin Lake Las Vegas during the 2024 Copa America tournament. According to Westin staff, the hotel is also where many of the Las Vegas Raiders’ opponents stay during the NFL season. Having a team stay on the Vegas strip the night before a big game may be less than ideal in terms of distractions.

The Westin still proudly displays signage from being part of the 2024 Super Bowl in Las Vegas.

This is my honest review of the Westin Lake Las Vegas. Here’s what you need to know about whether the Westin is right for you.

Westin Lake Las Vegas: An Inside Look at Where the Chiefs Stayed During the Super Bowl

Yes, you’ll be sharing the same halls and rooms where some of the biggest sports celebrities have stayed at the Westin Lake Las Vegas. No word on whether Taylor Swift made her way to the hotel during the Super Bowl week.

The resort offers multiple spacious pools which overlook Lake Las Vegas. There is a coffee shop on site called Marrakesh Express which serves Starbucks. Guests will find multiple restaurants, but the food options are not quite as expansive as a typical Vegas hotel. Ricks Cafe offers nice breakfast options to order or a buffet if you prefer.

The outdoor area is where the property shines. There is even a little beach area overlooking the lake. The resort also offers a sizable basketball court which also has a view of the lake.

Westin Lake Las Vegas: How Much Are Rooms?

A standard room at the Westin Lake Las Vegas with a view overlooking the mountains and pool.

One of the reasons I ended up at this Westin away from the Vegas strip is the pricing. I was able to stay for two nights for about $300 with fees. This was much cheaper than similar options from casinos on the strip.

Now, this could have been because people were not pumped to come to Vegas with 118-degree heat but more on that later. Regardless, the pricing was affordable and cheaper than staying on the strip during my stay.

The friendly staff upgraded me to a pool view which also showed the lake and mountains in the distance at no additional charge. I was also able to get a late checkout at 2 p.m., the latest a hotel has ever offered me during a stay.

Overall, the standard rooms offer what you would expect: a nice bed, desk area, sizable TV, couch and shower. There was also a little stool and table if I wanted to look out at the lake. Nothing crazy, but also just fine given the quality of the resort.

My room also had a sliding door with a quasi-balcony just big enough to lean against the rail but not suitable for a chair.

The Westin Lake Las Vegas Pools Have Views for Days

The two pool areas at Westin Lake Las Vegas.

If you forgot you were in the desert, the pool makes you feel like you found California or Hawaii for a brief moment with the tall palm trees. When you see the red sand and mountains, it becomes much clearer you are in Vegas, just without the slot machines

The Westin Lake Las Vegas offers side-by-side pools. Both with a view of the lake and mountains. One of the pools looked to be aimed at families with kids and had a small water slide.

Both areas had ample lounge chairs and seating areas. There is a restaurant where you can order food and drinks at the pool area. There is also a shaded seating area with outdoor couches if the sun gets to be too much.

I can’t say I utilized the pool as much as normal given the intense heat during my stay, but it at least offered a nice view, even from inside.

Golfers Will Love the Options at The Westin Lake Las Vegas, Including Reflection Bay

The beautiful Reflection Bay Golf Club located next to the Westin Lake Las Vegas.

As a (pretend) golfer, I enjoyed the Westin Lake Las Vegas which is located directly next to Reflection Bay Golf Club. The Westin offers complimentary shuttle service to the course, but it is also walkable (unless you are bringing your own clubs).

Westin guests also have access to SouthShore Country Club. This a Jack Nicklaus Signature private course .

Lots of amazing views at Reflection Bay golf course.

I was able to land a tee time at Reflection Bay for about $100, but this rate will be much higher in peak season. Rental clubs cost $70 and a box of golf balls started at $45. The record-high temperatures appeared to scare most people away the day I golfed.

As a single, I was able to play on my own and not get paired with anyone. This likely would have been different on a busy day.

The cost felt more than worth it given the beauty of the course, even in 118-degree weather. You will get mountain views throughout the 18 holes and Lake Las Vegas is also in play on a few areas.

Yes, this is still Reflection Bay golf course on Lake Las Vegas.

As for the difficulty, I trend towards the beginner level and found the course to be reasonable. Several holes offered challenges for more advanced golfers as well.

Lake Las Vegas Hotels: Should You Stay at the Westin or Hilton?

Westin Lake Las Vegas offers an amazing patio area.

Okay, so you want to go to Lake Las Vegas but is it better to stay at the Hilton or Westin? I did not stay at the Hilton, but the hotel did host the San Francisco 49ers during the 2024 Super Bowl.

Here’s why I chose the Westin over the Hilton. The Westin did have slightly higher rates when I booked, but the Hilton looked more dated. The recent reviews for the Westin were also more glowing than the comments the Hilton received.

How Much Were the Ubers and Lyfts from Lake Las Vegas to the Strip?

A common outdoor area near the ballrooms at Westin Lake Las Vegas.

One of my main concerns with staying at the Westin Lake Las Vegas was the cost for getting an Uber or Lyft to the strip. I had to be near the strip for NBA Summer League one of the days, but I also chose the Westin knowing I would not be commuting regularly.

I was able to get Lyft rides from or to the Vegas Strip for as low $30. During my research, I noticed this could be as high as $60.

Ideally, those staying at the Westin Lake Las Vegas will have a car to commute, unless you are not interested in leaving the resort. There are limited food options at the resort or within walking distance.

Yet, it is possible to get a reasonable Uber or Lyft if you need to do that at times as well.

Westin Lake Las Vegas Review Verdict: Hotel Is Worth the Hype

Beautiful view from the Westin Lake Las Vegas lobby.

No, the Westin did not pay me to do this review, but I did enjoy the hotel enough to recommend it to other travelers heading to Vegas. If you stayed at the hotel, let us know your experience in the comments.

The property does show small signs of being older but not enough to impact your stay. One compromise may be to stay on The Strip for the beginning of your trip before heading to Lake Las Vegas. The hotel does not offer the entertainment or food options of the Vegas casinos.

Yet, if you are tired of hearing slot machines buzz when you get your coffee in the morning, this is the hotel for you. Travelers will be pleased to learn you can get some quality time in nature, even in Vegas, at a price that is more than reasonable.
